Huaqiang Holdings set up Scholarships for Freshmen

The 2014 Huaqiang freshmen scholarship was given out in a ceremonyin the International Conference Hall in Shenzhen University on November 25, and445 freshmen were awarded a total of RMB￥5 million in scholarships by Huaqiang Holdings Limited. Attendeesof the ceremony include: the President of Shenzhen University Li Qingquan andtwo Vice Presidents—Li Fengliang and Li Jun; Chairman & President ofHuaqiang Holdings Liang Guangwei, Director & Vice President Zhang Zhesheng,and Vice Chairman of Huaqiang Charity Foundation Wu Yuping.

Li Qingquan, President of theuniversity, gave Huaqiang Holdings heartfelt thanks in his speech during theceremony for the conglomerate’s support in developing ShenzhenUniversityinto a first-class modern university with international impact.

Liang Guangwei,Chairman &President of Huaqiang Holdings, also gave aspeech during the ceremony, saying that for 30 years the company has adhered tothe corporate principles of honesty, innovation, harmony and win-wincooperation and has created an open platform that guides innovation, attractstalent, integrates resources and supports everyone. This platform stitches togetherthe entrepreneurial dream of individuals and corporate value creation,accelerates the conversion from technology to productivity, and bringsinnovation into robust commerce. Huaqiang Holdings will not only speed up the integrationof the said platform and the university’s platform of scientific research and education,it will also provide more resources for scientific research and for starting upbusinesses to faculties and students, as well as bring a touch ofentrepreneurship to the university, and strive to be a nationwide pioneer ofcompany-education institute cooperation. Mr. Liang also expressed his desire tothe faculties and students to turn the company group into an “experimentalfield” of scientific research and innovation for them, as well as his wishes tothe students to succeed in their studies and hopefully create a better futurewith the conglomerate after graduation.

Huaqiang Charity Foundation,part of the Huaqiang group, has set up the “Huaqiang Freshmen Scholarship” and “HuaqiangElite Freshmen Scholarship” in Shenzhen University in an effort to strengthenthe cooperation between educational institutes and corporations, attract talent,and reward those who performed well in the college-entrance exam. From the year2014 onwards, the Foundation will give out RMB￥5 million every year to elite students who are admitted intoShenzhen University. Therein, for students who get the “Huaqiang Elite FreshmenScholarship”, each will receive RMB￥50,000; and for those who get the “Huaqiang Freshmen Scholarship”,each will get RMB￥10,000.

According to the selection rules, this year 7 freshmen will getthe “Huaqiang Elite Freshmen Scholarship”, and each will get RMB￥20,000 when they start theirfirst year in school and RMB￥10,000 for each following year. For the 438 freshmen who got the “HuaqiangFreshmen Scholarship”, each will receive a one-off RMB￥10,000.
